Communities, particularly Queer communities, across the Midwest United States made me who I am as a professional and as a Queer human. Communities have given me voice, challenged me, and asked me to do better every step of the way. It is important that my work leverages the credentialing and power afforded to me in a way that gives back to these communities. RATS Harm Reduction is providing safer-use supplies and information to people who use drugs in Indianapolis.
As part of my work as a psychotherapist, I know the systemic attempts at gatekeeping and the ways these impact equitable access to care. One way that I work to leverage my own position is to offer pro-bono Hormone Therapy and Gender Affirmation Surgery letters to Indiana and Ohio residents as a GALAP Pledge signer. While GALAP's system is down I continue to provide letters and letter assessments pro-bono (for free).
